I'm going to show my age... I remember when there weren't any red ones. Red candies were eliminated in 1976 because of health concerns over the dye but were reintroduced ten years later.

level 2

The m&ms of my youth had tan and no red.

I'm going to show my age... I remember when you just got one M and they called them Ms.

level 2

I remember when red came out. That was in '86? Shit, I feel old.

level 1

Tan, red, blue...all the same color in the end.

Brown. Unless you drink grape pop/soda, then they're green.

I voted for blue so many times as a kid that I still remember the number to dial. 1-800-funcolor.

level 2

Called for shits and giggles.

Busy tone. :(

level 2

Yes! My friends and I would spend hours passing around the cordless phone voting for blue.

level 2

Damn you, I voted for purple! I knew I wasted my votes!

level 1

I think they need to add purple. Think of all the elementary school color wheel activities it would spawn. They'd be a lock as if they had any problem with market share as it is.

level 2

There are M&M stores in the world where you can get M&M's by color, and they have a large number of colors to pick from. I remember that the big toy store in Times Square had this, but I don't know whether it's still open since then (this was... 2005?).

level 2

I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the blue and purple ones though. :(

level 2

The choice in 1995 was between blue or purple and blue won.

I remember the campaign when they introduced them if you found a whole bag of just blue ones you won some money i think i remember because my mom hardly ever let us have candy and all of a sudden we would get m&ms when we went to the store.

level 1

I remember them looking like that. I was so happy when the blue ones came out because I could lay them out in a better rainbow order. I'd line them up in all the colours and eat them line by line so they were all even.

I've always had odd food tendencies.

Maaaaaan now I'm craving some M&M's.

My mother still RAILS about the blue ones and how wrong they are. I used to think she'd get used to it but now, nearly 20 years on, I think she might be taking this one to the grave.

level 2

I'm with your mom. I remember the campaign and thinking how unappetizing the blue ones looked, so unnatural.

level 1

Smarties in the UK have always had a better color spectrum, I think. Plus the orange ones have an extra flavour to them.

level 2

We have both Smarties and M&Ms in Canada. I definitely prefer Smarties. Smoother chocolate, better coating. Never noticed orange tasting any different though.
